How much does it cost to be part of the orchestra?
It depends on which program you are studying. For the 2018/2019 season, NYO (senior orchestra) fees are $775; JNYO (junior orchestra) are $685; Beginner Program are $200 for semester 1 and $260 for semester 2.
What do my fees include?
Your fees include weekly sectional instruction and weekly orchestra rehearsals from September until the end of May.
Do I need to be studying wih a private instructor?
If you are a member of the NYO (senior orchestra), you must be studying with a private instructor as a condition of membership.
Are there bursaries or financial assistance available?
Yes. Every year, the NYOA awards Graduation Scholarships and offer bursaries based on need. To qualify for bursaries, you must submit your latest notice of assessment along with a letter to the General Manager by September 1, 2018 requesting the amount needed. Where are rehearsals?
Rehearsals are on Saturday mornings at Calvary Church in St. Catharines. Rehearsals will be on Saturdays from September 8, 2018 - May 25, 2019 except December 29, 2018, and Jan. 5 and March 16, 2019. All rehearsals will take place at Calvary Church, 89 Scott Street, St. Catharines unless otherwise noted.
The NYO rehearses from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The JNYO rehearses from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Beginner Program runs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
What is the concert dress code?
Musicians are expected to wear white dress shirts, black bottoms, socks and shoes. Boys should wear a black bowtie.
Do you accept credit card as a form of payment?
Unfortunately we are not equipped to accept credit card payment at this time. Acceptable forms of payment are cheques (made payable to the "Niagara Youth Orchestra"), money orders, or cash.
