Niagara Youth Orchestra Bursaries

Dodie Layton Bursary

Awarded to newly recruited musicians that fill key instrumental vacancies, in either the Junior Niagara Youth Orchestra or Niagara Youth Orchestra, who are in need of financial assistance. A bursary of up to half the regular fees is available.

THE DORIS WHITMAN MEMORIAL MUSIC BURSARY

The purpose of this is to assist young instrumental musicians to pursue the mastery of their chosen instrument. The recipients must be a member of the NYOA, reside in the Region and demonstrates both financial need and a capability for benefitting from further training on their instrument. 

NYOA BURSARY

The purpose of this bursary is to fill instrumental vacancies in the senior NYO.  It is awarded for one year for up to $500.

Niagara Youth Orchestra Awards



DR. CHARLES AND WINIFRED SANKEY SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a graduating member of the NYO who will be continuing music studies in university.

NIAGARA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA AWARD

The Niagara Symphony Orchestra Award will recognize a graduating musician who has demonstrated an exemplary level of musicianship during their tenure with the Niagara Youth Orchestra, and who will be pursuing studies in music performance at a college or university. 

NIAGARA YOUTH ORCHESTRA ASSOCIATION AWARD

In an effort to recognize the contributions that members have made to the NYOA during their membership, awards will be presented to graduates who are continuing their post-secondary education at an accredited post-secondary institution, but who do not qualify for the Sankey Scholarships. The recipients must meet most of the following criteria:

  • Positive, supportive attitude

  • Motivation and leadership

  • Contribution to NYO musically and otherwise

  • Good citizen

  • Maturity, faithfulness, loyalty

  • Participation in extra events

PAUL vAN DONGEN FUND

Established at the 35th anniversary reunion to honour Paul van Dongen for creating the St. Catharines Junior Symphony in 1965,
